I encourage students to develop their own musical ideas while respecting the score, style, and the composer’s intentions.
Performance
Regular opportunities to perform help students manage nerves, communicate more freely, and enjoy being onstage.

High expectations, adapted to the student.
I expect students to work consistently and take their musical development seriously. At the same time, repertoire, pacing, and goals are adapted to the individual.
Private lessons are offered in South Calgary and, beginning in fall 2026, through Mount Royal University Conservatory.
About Lana
Dr. Lana Henchell.
Dr. Lana Henchell is a Calgary pianist and teacher with a Doctor of Music in Piano Performance from McGill University. She teaches at the University of Calgary and through Mount Royal University’s Conservatory and Academy programs.
Performance experience.
Her performing career includes first prize at the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Piano Competition, concerto appearances in Canada and Portugal, and solo and chamber performances in Canada and internationally.
Studio community
Masterclasses and studio community.
Masterclasses give students regular opportunities to perform for one another. They learn by listening as well as playing.
